Temple „In Antis“
Nechayevskaya Vyselka, Russia
Task
Competition/design on the theme “W-Meste – On the spot”, International Architecture Festival “Cities”, Russia.
Solution
The object is a reference to one of the oldest structures of antiquity – a temple in Antis, which is the earliest form of the Greek temple in stone. With the construction of this artificial ruin, we are on the one hand picking up threads from the landscape architecture tradition of Romanticism, which is known for its ubiquitous use of similar structures such as pavilions and landmarks. On the other hand, instead of a park, it is located in a completely different, even more picturesque and somewhat more alarming context, namely an abandoned Soviet cattle farm, which is currently gradually developing into an active cultural space. The anti-temple made of pressed hay blocks with its portico above an expansive valley with a lake is thus simultaneously a genius loci, a landscape turner and something much older.
